Kinetic Pavilion

Kinetic Pavilion is a flexible public structure developed for Detroit’s Cultural District. Conceived as a prototype rather than a fixed object, it accommodates a wide range of uses—from informal gatherings to large public events—through movable components, responsive lighting, and environmental systems.

The pavilion is organized around a lightweight exoskeleton and a translucent skin that modulate light, shadow, and atmosphere across changing conditions. Durable, low-maintenance materials support structural efficiency while foregrounding visual legibility and transformation. Neither stage nor monument, the pavilion operates as civic infrastructure—linking architecture, technology, and public life in a space designed to evolve through use.
